ANCHORING STRENGTH
The anchoring strength between plug and casing depends
on effective bond strength and plug length. Effective bond strength is the actual bond
strength between a dump bailed plug and the casing. Dump bailed plugs are an accumulation
of multiple dump runs. During a dumping operation, the slurry is contaminated as it drops
through multiple feet of wellbore fluid. The equation below takes this into consideration.
The anchoring strength of a plug in service can be determined as shown:
Anchor Strength of Plug (DP) = 5 x
|
ts
(psi) x l
(ft) |
| DP | = | Anchoring strength, psi |
| ts | = | Bond strength from figure, psi |
| l | = | Length of plug, feet |
| OD | = | OD of casing, inches |
